Pioneered by the Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka (IESL) in 1980, the Junior Inventor of the Year (JIY) Competition stands as a beacon, illuminating the path of innovation and creativity for school children across Sri Lanka. Aimed at nurturing the inventive spirit of individuals aged 12 to 19, this competition has become a cornerstone in fostering a culture of ingenuity within the younger generation.
Competitors who are selected through preliminary competitions move forward to the final competition held in August, where their inventions undergo further evaluation. The JIY finalists, carrying the torch of innovation, are then facilitated to display their inventions at the JIY Stall during the annual flagship event of the IESL—the Techno Exhibition in October 2024.
Beyond the competition, JIY leaves an indelible mark on the participants, fostering a spirit of curiosity, problem-solving, and inventive thinking.
