The ‘Junior Inventor of the Year’ (JIY) competition is a monumental effort brought to life by the Institution of Engineers Sri Lanka (IESL) in collaboration with the Ministry of Education Sri Lanka. The competition intends to inspire the innovative young generation of Sri Lanka by pioneering the platform to bring out their creativity, inventiveness, and ingenuity. Intending to empower young minds, the competition allows students to present innovations of their own and offers recognition they truly deserve. Being a locally and globally recognized platform the Junior Inventor of the Year competition is the best way to pave the path for the creative young community in Sri Lanka. The youth between the age of 12-19 years are invited to unleash their inner potential through the JIY competition organized for the 42nd consecutive year in 2025.

Pioneered by the Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka (IESL) in 1980, the Junior Inventor of the Year (JIY) Competition inspires innovation and creativity among Sri Lankan youth aged 12 to 19. This prestigious competition fosters a culture of ingenuity, encouraging young minds to solve real-world challenges through inventive thinking.
Finalists, selected through preliminary rounds, showcase their creations at the JIY Stall during IESL’s Techno Exhibition in October 2025, following the grand finals in August. Beyond awards, JIY nurtures curiosity, problem-solving, and a visionary mindset, shaping future innovators to lead the nation toward a brighter tomorrow.

Preliminary evaluation of submissions begins.
This is the first step for competitors who are interested in participating in the IESL JIY 2025 competition. By completing this registration, you express your intent to compete and secure your spot in the competition. At this stage, only basic details are required. Once registered, you will receive further instructions and updates regarding the competition timeline and next steps.
In this stage, registered competitors must provide comprehensive details about their projects. This includes a detailed project description, objectives, innovation aspects, technical specifications, and any supporting materials required for evaluation. This stage is crucial as it helps judges understand the depth and feasibility of your project. Completing this step ensures your eligibility for further rounds of the competition.
